Your day trip begins early in the morning with pickup from your riad or hotel in Marrakech. You leave the city and start ascending into the High Atlas Mountains, following the scenic road through the famous Tizi n’Tichka Pass. As you climb higher, the views become more impressive, with winding roads, mountain peaks, and deep valleys. Along the way, you pass small Berber villages built along the hillsides, offering a glimpse into traditional mountain life. Several stops are made to enjoy panoramic views, stretch your legs, and take photos. This mountain crossing is one of the most beautiful drives in Morocco and a highlight of the day.
Around midday, you arrive at the famous Aït Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its earthen architecture and film history. You have time to walk through the ancient village, explore narrow alleys, and enjoy views from the top of the kasbah. After the visit, you continue south toward the Draa Valley, one of Morocco’s longest and most beautiful valleys. The landscape slowly changes as palm groves, small villages, and desert scenery appear along the road. Lunch is enjoyed in a local restaurant along the route, offering a chance to relax and taste traditional Moroccan food while surrounded by southern landscapes.
In the afternoon, you arrive in the Zagora region, known as the starting point of old caravan routes toward the Sahara. You take time to enjoy the desert atmosphere, open landscapes, and palm-filled surroundings. Although Zagora is not a sandy dune desert, its rocky terrain and wide spaces give a true desert feeling. After a short walk and photo stops, you begin the return journey toward Marrakech, retracing the road through the Draa Valley and the High Atlas Mountains. You arrive back in Marrakech in the evening and are dropped off at your accommodation, marking the end of your Zagora Desert day trip.
