Your day trip starts early in the morning with pickup from your riad or hotel in Marrakech. You leave the city and begin the ascent into the High Atlas Mountains, following a winding road through the famous Tizi n’Tichka Pass. As you climb higher, the scenery becomes more dramatic, with mountain peaks, deep valleys, and wide panoramic views. Along the way, you pass small Berber villages built on hillsides and along river valleys, offering a look at traditional mountain life. Several short stops are made for photos and to enjoy the fresh mountain air. This part of the journey is a highlight on its own, making the drive an unforgettable experience.
Around midday, you arrive at the iconic Aït Ben Haddou Kasbah, one of the best-preserved fortified villages in Morocco. You have time to walk through the ancient mud-brick houses, narrow alleys, and defensive walls while learning about the history of the site. Climbing to the top of the kasbah rewards you with beautiful views over the surrounding landscape. This historic village has been used as a filming location for many international movies and series, adding to its fame. After the visit, you enjoy lunch in a local restaurant near the kasbah, where you can relax and taste traditional Moroccan dishes.
After lunch, you continue toward Ouarzazate, a city known for its kasbahs, film studios, and desert atmosphere. You have time to explore the area, enjoy views of the surrounding landscapes, and learn why Ouarzazate is often called the gateway to the Sahara Desert. In the afternoon, you begin the return journey to Marrakech, once again crossing the High Atlas Mountains. The changing light offers new perspectives on the mountains and valleys. You arrive back in Marrakech in the evening and are dropped off at your accommodation, marking the end of your Ouarzazate and Aït Ben Haddou day trip.
